When this first popped up I had to admit I was kind of skeptical... like, do I really need this thing? But as I looked at it more and started thinking about it, I realized that it actually does make a lot of sense for an RV bed with a plywood base to have some good airflow, and particularly if you were a full-timer... we are not, but we do live in Florida and it's humid as can be most of the year, so we do try to put as much time and effort into making the camper stay dry as we can so we can prolong the life of it. While the bed would be pretty easy to duplicate, it's not something I want to do... The other thing is that our bed, while comfortable, is nowhere near as deep as I need so I wake up with my arms numb sometimes sleeping on my side because it gets so compressed and hard... we got a mattress topper which helped quite a lot with that but then I saw this and thought it would be nice to have even just a little bit more of a buffer between the actual mattress and the wood... the fact that this will let it breath under there is also pretty awesome. I honestly thought that as soon as the mattress was on it, and definitely once a person was that it would just compress this thing down to nothing and it would just be like a piece of cloth laid on the wood... surprisingly, this thing held up great! It kept the distance exactly the same height it was even with all that weight/pressure on there. I've not owned an RV to know whether or not the bed would rot out quickly, but it does make common sense that it could easily with frequent sleep on your mattress getting all that sweat and moisture in there... will this give me extra life on the bed? I hope so... but it does exactly what it says it does. To me, it's a great concept and also gave us that last little bit of height we needed to the mattress. Price seems ok too.

It’s always good to have extra airflow in your camper. This thing has worked great. It seems to even keep the mattress a little cooler than usual. It is super comfortable and super easy to install. It is machine washable as well.

What a great idea. Claimed: "Made from an advanced patented material, it actively increases airflow under your mattress without the need for a bulky box spring, expensive and complicated powered ventilation system, or hours of work each year airing out and cleaning the bottom of your mattress." - yep, I can see how this could work. And further: "VentMat creates a pillow of air for your mattress to rest on, enabling better [air] circulation." It certainly is impressive looking when taking it out of its packaging. Seems like a surrounding semi-rigid outer rim, with a tight-mesh type material on top and bottom; and sandwiched in-between this mesh is about one(1")Inch of some kind of spongy/springy type material. Just blowing on one-side of this "MAT" and you can feel the air movement on the other side with your hand. Impressive !!

A common issue in RVs is the bottom of the mattress molding. Moisture control can be difficult in a small RV space, especially in humid climates. RV mattresses generally sit right on top of a plywood base so there's no space for air to move though and keep things dry. This airflow pad claims to solve this problem. The mattress underlay goes under your mattress and the air is then able to flow through between mattress and plywood base. The underlay is very simple to install. Just put it under the mattress with the elastic bands facing up. Then slide the bands up over the corners of the mattress. The underlay is very light so it adds no appreciable weight to your RV. I haven't used it in any humid conditions so I can't say how well it works in the winter or at the coast but I've heard good things about this type of underlay on various RV forums so I'm very glad to have it and trust that it'll protect my mattress from mold. If I ever discover mold on my mattress despite having this installed I'll come back and update this review, but I don't expect that to happen. This is a quick and easy way to have peace of mind about my RV mattress.

For years I have been trying to find a good underlayment for my RV mattress. One major issue in the upper northeast New England area is excessive moisture when storing RVs for the winters. I have tried a number of “home remedies” bricks, blocks, books, and even wood to get air under my mattress when storing it. This arrived in a box rolled up and inside a plastic bag. I had many concerns when opening it. I did not think it would lay flat. Well to my surprise once opened it latterly opened up and laid right down. However, mine did have a slight smell when I opened it, but I let it air out for a few days and all is good now. I can almost tell by just the feel of this that it will work. It is a heavy mesh material, and it is thick. This is the perfect size for my queen and the rounded corners make it fit on my platform perfectly. In fact, it fits better than my actual mattress. Having the four (4) straps to hold it to my mattress is nice, especially when making the bed. And it is washable... bonus!

This seems to work like described. I noticed last time I changed the sheets in my camper the bottom side of the bed was damp so I ordered this. We put it under the mattress in our RV a week ago and today I put clean sheets on the RV bed for un upcoming trip and the bottom of the mattress was dry!!!

I ordered this mattress pad for one of the aft cabins on our sailboat. Last winter was my first experience dealing with the moisture and condensation that inevitably occurs when it is freezing outdoors; all the mattresses on our boat would be sopping wet on the underside every morning. It only took a week or so of waiting for sunny mornings to air dry mattresses to realize I needed a solution to prevent damp mattresses in the first place. My husband and I ordered rolls of plastic insulation designed to keep our mattresses elevated. It has worked well and was easy to trim to fit the odd-shaped bunk spaces, such as the vee berth. Unfortunately, the stiff plastic pieces tend to break off, and it snags on some of my bedding. When I saw this mattress pad, I was intrigued by the possibility of an alternate solution. This pad is made very nicely, and is soft with some give to it. It is constructed with a thick mesh overlay on both sides, with a spongy feeling pad sandwiched between, and elastic loops on each corner to secure it to a mattress. It is working well so far to allow airflow and prevent condensation build-up under the mattress, though the really cold temperatures haven't set in yet. This mattress underlay pad is great for allowing airflow underneath the mattress on our sailboat. I am happy enough with this pad that this is the second one I have ordered, and I am considering one for the other beds, as well.

We had a rubber mat type underlayment previously and it did nothing to reduce the moisture. After looking at our mattress after a year it really didn’t seem to do anything. Big hopes for this new product - it’s night and day better just by looking at it.

We are using it on a boat and it is not as tall as some others, which is nice. It does seem to provide airflow and should reduce moisture and molding.

This is a very well designed airflow mattress pad, which works to help provide condensation that can make for an uncomfortable situation. Moisture wicking material makes this a great addition to your RV mattress pad. This mat provides airflow under the mattress -which ultimately improves the overall condition of your mattress and provides that level of protection. I had accidentally gotten the Short-King and I knew it was high quality. Now that I have the "correct" size, I can attest that the fitment went very well. Overall sleep is better - therefore, I would recommend this to other consumers. :)
